Gifts for Hannah

Yesterday was Hannah's 12th birthday and Ella and I made her a few cute items. Ella had cross-stitched this darling owl for Hannah and we decided to make it into a bookmark. I made 5 of these book marks for book club as gifts. The elastic goes around the book, then attaches to the button so the bookmark never falls out!

Then we made a cute cross-body purse out of matching fabric. These are my favorite to make. I've got to make me one :)

A Quilt for Olivia

I made this little wall quilt for my friend's darling baby to hang in her nursery. The fabric is remaining from the baby blankets we made. I love how it turned out and I am already thinking of other color combinations and more bird shapes!

A Quilt for Tara

I made this small wall/table quilt for a bridal shower gift. It is all red & white fabrics which I love. The photo isn't the best because I finished it at night then had to wrap it and take it to the shower. I may make one for myself!

Sewing marathon!

My friend Hillary flew in for President's weekend from DC. We had so much fun. All we did was buy fabric, sew, and listen to country music - so my kind of weekend. Here are a few projects we made. There were 2 other small quilts and a table runner that I didn't get pictures of because we were so busy!

The quilt is for her little boy's toddler bed.
These items are for her little girl's birthday. We made a skirt, headband, and cross-body purse. I love the fabrics!

A Quilt for Kathy

I made this quilt a while ago for a friend who was sick, but never posted the photos. I love how it turned out and it is large like a throw quilt - I put flannel on the back to make it cuddly.

Book Cover

I made these little book covers for the small size of "Book of Mormon". A perfect size to keep in your purse or car. I took one to the RS auction and everyone loved it. So, let me know if you are intrested in making them.

Happy Valentines!

Hope you all have a "lovely" Valentines Day!  From our house to yours...

A History of my Valentine Quilts

I was looking around my house and I have several Valentine Quilts all with very different feels. They've been made through the years and it is interesting to see how the style & fabrics have changed.

Here is my first Valentine Quilt! I made it is 2000 just after I got my brand new Bernina! The pattern was from a Better Homes & Garden Quilt publication. Fabric has come a long way in the last 11 years!!!

2002 I made this little wall quilt which I still love even though it is made with "barn red" that was oh so popular then. I love how each of the background blocks are different creams. I still hang it up every February.

This quilt was made in 2005 - again, the fabrics are so much better these days! I always love a wonky block!
Then in 2009 came my cupcake phase. You can't see the whole thing - but there is another row of appliqued cupcakes. This used to hang in Sally's room, but now she has a Rapunzel room.
This "banner" style wall hanging I also made in 2009 - I used the applique patterns from the previous quilt, but made the arrangement and letters myself. I still love it!
From cupcakes to owls, these were both made last year in 2010.

This big hugs and Kisses quilt was made in 2010 also - I still love it! It hangs in my entry way.2011
This year! I just finished my "Love Birds" quilt. It is an original design by me. I love that there are a few pieced heart blocks mixed in with the plain blocks. The applique was a bit tedious - the letters are super curvy and swirly. I love the birds as well.

This quilt I also just finished and it hangs above my piano. I love this year's Moda valentines fabric that adds a bit of turquoise to the mix. Thanks to my mom-in-law for sending them to me! I made her a quilt like this as well - I love the birds, I love that it is off center and a little funky!

I sewed up this quick table quilt for my mom-in-law as well - just for a little spot of color somewhere.

Last night I sewed these two small quilts for our RS auction tonight - so if you're going - here is a sneak peek! I really want to keep this table runner because I still need to make myself one.

Then there is this little square quilt with two birds (who still need button eyes). I love them both.

Bathroom Valance

Hello my S2 sewing sisters! We've been working on a few things in our new home. This valance was in the powder room from the previous owner. I liked the style, but not the dated and dirty fabric. I used it as a pattern to make a new one. I really like how it turned out.

Sally's Room...progress

Sally has convinced me her favorite colors are pink and purple and they need to be in her "youoom" (room). So, I took all the darling pink and brown cupcakes stuff down and I am transforming it into a "Rapunzel" inspired room. So, lots of spray paint is involved!!!I got these frames from thrift shops and garage sales. I took the pictures and glass out and spray painted them heirloom white.

If you preorder the "Tangled" DVD from the Disney store you get 4 Tangled prints and a $10 coupon - no brainer! I knew I wanted to use the pictures in Sally's room, but they are a funny size. So, I used the over sized frames and just tacked the picture in the center - I love how it looks!
This was the quilt that was in Sally's room before, it used to be Ella's but I still like it for some reason. I cute lavender circles and flowers out and appliqued/quilted them right on top and I love the new look it gives.

New flower center and the quilting is swirled
I finally painted this little night stand that I got at a garage sale - 2 of them for $5! It was cream and yellow with yellow and green flowers - I'm sure you've seen the look. 1 can of Heirloom white later and I love it! We also spray painted the thrift jewelry box and the thrift mirror! (notice the Cinderella perfume, it was from Santa and smells so cute!)
I sewed a little quilt to go on top of the nightstand. I love how it turned out - super simple I think it took and hour start to hand sewn binding!
I did really close straight quilting - I love the look but I would not take the time to quilt a large project like this.

I took the puff balls down from her birthday party and hung them in her room (yes I copied Judy on this one). I love them - they give it a light feel. Oh, the puff balls were made from white tissue paper and I lightly spray painted the edges so they have a softer feel!

The bedding still need work - I have big plans to make quilted shams and throw pillows. And I am trying to figure out how to hang string lanterns in the room so it feels like "Tangled."
